11 Signs You May Be Psychic or a Medium (From My Personal Experience)
⋆ A gentle note before we begin ⋆
In this post I share opinions based on my personal experiences, research, and spiritual interpretations of intuition and mediumship. Some of these experiences can have psychological, neurological, sensory, or other physical explanations and are not definitive proof of psychic or mediumship ability.
Always practice discernment; and if you're experiencing distressing changes in perception, persistent anxiety, or unexplained physical symptoms, consider speaking with a qualified healthcare professional.
This article is for personal reflection and spiritual exploration, and is not a substitute for professional mental health care or medical advice.
How I Began Recognizing My Own Intuition
Before I understood my psychic experiences through the lens of intuition and spirituality, I didn't have the language to explain a lot of what I noticed, felt, knew, or saw - so some things seemed completely normal to me, while others left me wondering why I the world came across a little differently to me than it did for the people around me.
It wasn't until I began exploring my spirituality more deeply that I started connecting the dots - and looking back at some of those experiences in a new light is what allowed me to understand the interconnectedness of the things I had experienced for years, but hadn't recognized as potentially intuitive or spiritual - so I want to share some of them with you, because you may recognize some of these experiences in yourself, too.
If you've ever wondered why you seem especially sensitive to your surroundings, have vivid dreams, or experience moments that feel difficult to explain, I hope this post gives you a starting point for exploring those questions with curiosity rather than fear.
What is a Psychic?
A psychic is someone who uses their intuition to perceive and interpret information beyond what they may consciously know through their five physical senses. Psychic work is often used to explore questions about life, relationships, career, personal growth, and spirituality, offering a different perspective on situations that may feel confusing, uncertain, or difficult to navigate.
Some psychics work with tools like tarot cards, oracle cards, pendulums, or other divination practices to help interpret intuitive impressions - while others work without tools, relying only on what they perceive through their inner senses, feelings, thoughts, images, or other intuitive experiences and extra sensory perceptions (ESP).
Intuition can show up in different ways for different people. You might experience a strong gut feeling about a situation, have a vivid mental image that seems meaningful, sense an emotional undercurrent you can't quite explain, or feel drawn toward a particular decision without immediately understanding why. In spiritual contexts, some people interpret these experiences as intuitive or psychic impressions.
Psychic readings can offer an opportunity to explore these impressions, reflect on different possibilities, and consider perspectives you may not have thought about before - and ideally, the experience supports your own discernment and helps you feel more connected to your inner knowing rather than encouraging you to hand your power over to someone else.
What is a Medium?
A medium is someone who, within a spiritual understanding of their abilities, serves as a bridge between the physical world and the spirit world. Mediumship involves perceiving and interpreting experiences that the medium understands as communication from Spirit, which may include loved ones who have passed away, spirit guides (like the Archangels), ascended masters (like Jesus or Buddha), or other spiritual presences.
Mediumship can take different forms depending on the individual. Some mediums describe receiving information through mental images, inner hearing, physical sensations, emotions, or a knowing that seems to arise without a clear explanation (the "Clairs") - while others may experience vivid dreams, recognize familiar details, or receive impressions they associate with a particular person or spiritual presence.
Some mediums also communicate through spoken messages, while others incorporate writing, art, prayer, or other creative practices into their work. Not every medium experiences communication in the same way, and there is no single experience that everyone must have to explore mediumship.
For many people, mediumship is meaningful because it offers a way to explore their relationship with spirituality, love, grief, and the possibility of connection beyond physical life - and these experiences can bring comfort, reflection, or a renewed sense of connection.
Healthy mediumship should always leave room for discernment - and a medium's interpretation should never act as a substitute for your own judgment, nor should a reading should pressure you into accepting a message, making a decision, or believing something that doesn't feel right to you.
A Psychic Medium is someone who is able to do both...
A psychic medium is someone who combines psychic perception with mediumship, or in other words, they work with intuitive impressions to explore information about a person's life and experiences, while also interpreting impressions they understand as communication from the spirit world.
The distinction is that psychic work generally focuses on intuitive information about a person or situation, while mediumship specifically involves perceived communication with Spirit - these practices can overlap, and some practitioners, like myself, offer both within the same reading.
For example, a psychic medium might receive intuitive impressions about a life transition, a relationship, or a personal challenge while also experiencing communication from a loved one who has passed away or guide who is trying to get your attention. The two forms of perception may arise together naturally rather than as separate parts of a session.
In my own experience, intuition and mediumship aren't always neatly divided into categories either - information can come through in different ways, and part of the work is learning how to recognize, interpret, and approach those impressions with care, honesty, and discernment.
My approach to this work isn't about telling people who they are, predicting every detail of their future, or positioning myself as the authority over their lives - it's about creating space for reflection, clarity, and a deeper relationship with their own intuition and spiritual understanding.
Whether you're exploring psychic abilities, curious about mediumship, or simply trying to make sense of experiences you've had throughout your life, you don't have to rush to label yourself or figure everything out at once. You can approach your experiences with curiosity, stay open to different explanations, and allow your understanding to develop at a pace that feels grounded and right for you.
✨ 11 Signs You May Be Psychic or a Medium (From My Personal Experience) ✨
You have a vivid imagination: Perhaps you were always that kid that didn't mind playing alone, and still to this day enjoy your own company, because you're very creative and have this uncanny ability to add fun, romance, or mystery to what's otherwise ordinary. You may also be a visual learner, recall things in the form of images and short movies, or even be able to taste, and smell things from memory. These can all be signs of ESP in the form of Clairvoyance (clear seeing), Clairgustance (clear tasting), and Clairalience (clear smelling).
You've always felt or have been told you're highly sensitive: You can feel the overall vibe of a space, person, objects, and photos just by looking at them - and you can always tell when something is off with even when others may be trying to hide it. In addition to that you may see energies in the form of shadows, figures, colors, & flashes of light - or have vivid, or even lucid dreams, about different people, places, and events before you meet, see, or experience them in your waking life. These can be signs of Clairsentience (clear feeling), Claircognizance (clear knowing), and Clairvoyance again.
You often feel emotional, drained, anxious, or overwhelmed: Especially at night and in public settings because you “can feel everyone and everything.” Uncontrolled Clairaudience (clear hearing), Clairsentience, and Empathy (heightened emotional perception) can come up as anxiety and racing thoughts - or even feeling like you can hear more voices than there are people - as well as claustrophobia or overheated even when it’s cold or you have plenty of space around you. Spiritually this could be a sign you're unknowingly absorbing energy from your environment, and over time, without transmutation this can lead to the inability to stop catastrophizing the future and vulnerability to "psychic attack" from lack of cleansing and spiritual boundaries.
You can physically feel things that you can’t see: You may feel fingers running through your hair, a hand on your shoulder, a kiss on your cheek or someone taking a seat on the foot of your bed without explanation. It sounds spooky, and it can be at first - but for many versed mediums this phenomena starts to feel just as normal as operating strictly within the physical where we all can see.
You get physically ill when you’re around the wrong people and places: Spaces where there was a lot of trauma, or people with negative intentions can feel off to the point where your body has to immediately purge the energy it's taking on via discomfort or illness. Oftentimes when this is the case you'll notice a pattern like migraines, dizziness, fatigue, or the sudden onset of nausea any time you encounter a specific location or energy.
You “hear” things that aren’t there or that people never said out loud: You may keep hearing a specific word or song that reminds you of a particular loved one, your name called while you’re the only one around, or accidentally respond to inner thoughts that those near you never said out loud - which means you could be clairaudient, or even telepathic.
You hear ringing, buzzing, tingling, ticking out of nowhere: You may notice that you can hear the frequency of things, like a subtle hum of life underneath certain items, even those that don't have any electronic capability - or even notice that electronics malfunction or suddenly start working around you. You could be projecting your aura out without even knowing it.
You experience frequent synchronicities: It feels like your life is being lovingly guided and you're constantly getting signs connecting you to the right people and places. This could be in the form of words, numbers, colors, animals, songs, or something specific you asked to be used a symbol for you. They bring you a sense of comfort and knowing, as well as inspiration to make changes whether they be smaller in nature like a pattern or belief, or larger like in home or career.
You experience intense Deja Vu: You might feel an uncanny familiarity with a person, place, or situation, almost as though you've been there before and are now collecting checkpoints or memories from a life you've already lived. Some spiritual traditions connect these experiences with past lives, spiritual guidance, or a sense of alignment with your chosen path.
You have a strong connection to underdogs, babies, animals, the elderly, & the disabled: You may naturally gravitate toward those who are overlooked or struggle to advocate for themselves. Perhaps animals and children seem especially comfortable around you, or you feel deeply attuned to people who communicate differently.
This connection may feel like an intuitive understanding of needs that aren't always expressed in words and can be a reflection of your own empathy, compassion, and ability to make others feel safe.
You have a strong attraction to the paranormal: Have you always been fascinated by ghosts, the occult, divination, mythology, or the mysteries of consciousness? Maybe you've spent years exploring questions about the spirit world, life after death, and the things we can't easily explain - or had a personal experience that sparked a deeper interest in spirituality as a means to understand what you've encountered. That curiosity can be less coincidental than you think and spark the beginning of a meaningful journey of exploration and self-discovery.
Recognize Yourself in These Signs?
You don't need to experience every sign on this list, and you don't have to rush to label yourself. These are just some of the experiences I personally encountered before I understood them through the lens of intuition and mediumship, and there are many other ways that our intuition can come through.
If something resonates with you, let it be an invitation to explore, not a requirement to prove anything - and allow yourself to get curious about your experiences, learn what you can, and give yourself room to discover what intuition and spirituality mean to you.
You might be surprised by what you learn when you start paying attention.
